PhD in Energy Economics and Governance (PhD.EEG)

Introduction

The PhD programme in Energy Economics & Governance is designed for students interested in pursuing advanced training and conducting original research in the area of energy resources through an interdisciplinary approach. The Course prepares students in their advanced careers as energy economists and governance experts in academia with ability to develop, design and evaluate policy and strategy frameworks in areas of energy to the development and benefit of energy industry, government, scientific research institutions and private business. This fits well into MUBS Vision: The benchmark for business and management education, research and training. Training under this programme combines rigorous work in advanced economic theory and governance concepts with carefully designed methodologies applied to real-world energy problems and institutions to address challenges faced in a developing-country context like Uganda, region and beyond.

Admission Requirements

Admission is open to qualified applicants from all countries who meet the following requirements:

  • A Master’s Degree with taught courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics, or evidence of having completed equivalent courses in addition to the master’s qualification.

  • All Bachelor’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and Master’s degrees must be obtained from institutions recognized by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

  • Submission of academic references attesting to the applicant’s ability and suitability to undertake doctoral-level study and research.

  • Applicants holding a Master of Energy Economics and Governance (MEEG) shall be required to undertake only the generic advanced courses of the PhD programme before proceeding to doctoral research.

Program Details

  • Normal Duration: Four (4) years for full-time study
  • Maximum Duration: Six (6) years
  • Structure: Eight (8) semesters
  • Semester Length: Seventeen (17) weeks per semester
