Master of Business Administration (Evening)
Introduction
Globally, the demand for Master of Business Administration is growing due to the interdisciplinary nature of the business-operating environment that requires a manager with wide range of business and management skills. MBA remains the dominant business degree that allows students to build a diverse network of professionals and practitioners from the different contexts. The programme normally attracts people with working experience who can then benefit from the management concepts using knowledge accumulated at the work place. The applicants are usually people in their early careers and would wish to acquire knowledge in business and management.
Though the global job market has changed drastically in recent years, employers still seek MBA degree due to its broad nature that allows the graduates to solve all business and management related problems in any discipline. A recent survey by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) indicate that nearly two-thirds of employers’ plan to hire MBA graduates in the next three years as opposed to the discipline specific programmes. This is an indication that the job market for those pursuing an MBA programme is expected to remain strong in the coming years.
Admission Requirements
Admission into the MBA (Evening) programme shall be through the following avenues, subject to the general regulations of Higher Degrees of Makerere University Business School:
- Direct Entry (Bachelor’s Degree Holders):
- A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution with at least a Second Class Lower Division or its equivalent.
- Degree Holders Scheme (Pass Degree):
- A Bachelor’s Degree with a Pass, plus evidence of relevant working experience in a managerial or professional capacity.
- Professional Qualification Route:
- Applicants with recognized professional qualifications (such as ACCA, CPA, CIM, CIPS, CFA or equivalent) may be admitted upon satisfying School and University regulations.
- Additional Requirements (All Applicants):
- Submission of academic and/or professional references attesting to the applicant’s suitability for postgraduate study.
- Sitting and passing the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or its approved equivalent.
Program Details
- Duration: Two (2) years
- Structure: Four (4) semesters and one (1) recess term
- Mode of Study: Evening (Part-time)
- Semester Length: Seventeen (17) weeks
- Fifteen (15) weeks for teaching
- Two (2) weeks for examinations
- Recess Term Duration: Ten (10) weeks
- Campus: Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Main Campus and designated study centres
- Award: Master of Business Administration (MBA).

- Plan A (Dissertation Option):
- Year One: Fifteen (15) core courses
- Year Two: Five (5) core courses and one (1) elective from the area of specialization, plus a dissertation and seminar presentations
- Plan B (Project Option):
- Year One: Fifteen (15) core courses
- Year Two: Two (2) core courses, five (5) core courses and one (1) elective from the area of specialization, plus a project report and seminar presentations.
