Master of Business Administration (MBA – Modular)
Introduction
MBA remains the dominant business degree that allows students to build a diverse network of professionals and practitioners from the different contexts. The programme normally attracts people with working experience who can then benefit from the management concepts using knowledge accumulated at the work place. The applicants are usually people in their early careers and would wish to acquire knowledge in business and management. The objectives of the MBA programme are as follows: –
- To give students a solid foundation in business and management that will prepare them for a successful business career.
- To prepare students to synthesize, analyze, and integrate the various knowledge of business disciplines to provide innovative and credible solutions to organizational problems and opportunities.
- To provide students with detailed knowledge regarding the various business management domains of accounting, Finance, Project Management, Public Sector Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Business Analytics, Strategy and Communication
Admission Requirements
Admission into the MBA (Modular) programme shall be in accordance with the general regulations for Higher Degrees of Makerere University Business School and shall be through the following avenues:
- Direct Entry (Bachelor’s Degree Holders):
- A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution with at least a Second Class Lower Division or its equivalent.
- Degree Holders Scheme (Pass Degree):
- A Bachelor’s Degree with a Pass, plus evidence of relevant post-qualification working experience in a managerial, supervisory, or professional role.
- Professional Qualification Route:
- Recognized professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CIM, CIPS, CFA, or their equivalents, subject to approval by the University.
- Additional Requirements (All Applicants):
- At least two academic or professional references certifying the applicant’s suitability for postgraduate study.
- Sitting and passing the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or any other approved equivalent assessment.
Program Details
- Duration: Two (2) years
- Structure: Four (4) semesters comprising eight (8) modules
- Mode of Study: Modular (Part-time / Block release)
- Module Duration: Ten (10) weeks per module
- Seven (7) weeks for teaching
- One (1) week for revision
- Two (2) weeks for examinations
- Modules per Semester: Two (2) modules
- Campus: Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Main Campus and approved study centres
- Award: Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Plan A (Dissertation Option):
- Year One (Modules 1–4): Fifteen (15) core courses
- Year Two (Modules 5–8): Five (5) core courses and one (1) elective selected from the area of specialization, plus a dissertation and seminar presentations
Plan B (Project Option):
- Year One (Modules 1–4): Fifteen (15) core courses
- Year Two (Modules 5–6): Two (2) core courses
- Modules 7–8: Five (5) core courses and one (1) elective selected from the area of specialization, plus a project report and seminar presentations.
