MUBS Career Teachers Workshop Highlights Skills for the Changing World of Work

Main Campus, October 3, 2026 – The Career Teachers Workshop 2026 was organized by Makerere University Business School’s Career and Skills Development Center which brought together career teachers to discuss the best ways of preparing learners for the changing world of work. The workshop highlighted the role of career guidance in helping learners to seize emerging opportunities and equipping them with skills for their future educational and professional journey. It was a chance to consider how education can respond to technological change and changing expectations in the workplace.

In his remarks, the MUBS Principal, Prof. Moses Muhwezi, called for the development of resilience, adaptability, self-direction and integrity among learners in addition to academic knowledge. He stressed the need for education to prepare young people to cope with change, to take responsibility for their own development and to make ethical choices.
Prof Muhwezi also called for rethinking education in the digital and AI era. The message, he said, pointed out the need to equip learners with the capacity to learn and apply knowledge continuously as technologies change the ways people study and work.

Career teachers are critical in this preparation, assisting learners to identify their strengths, explore career avenues and make informed decisions. As the world of work continues to evolve, career guidance must also help shape values and practical capabilities that learners can transfer across roles and opportunities. The workshop stressed the importance of integrating academic learning with skills development and deliberate career guidance for an ever-dynamic future for learners.
