Makerere University Business School has commissioned a new classroom block designed to accommodate over 1,200 students, marking another significant milestone in the School’s efforts to improve teaching and learning infrastructure.
The new facility was officially opened by the Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, during a ceremony attended by members of the MUBS Council and Management, staff, students and other invited guests.
Principal Highlights Growth in Infrastructure and Staff Development
In his remarks, the MUBS Principal, Prof. Moses Muhwezi, welcomed the new development, noting that it represents an important step towards addressing the challenge of inadequate teaching and learning space at the School.
He assured the MUBS community that the challenge of space would progressively be addressed, revealing that another building project is expected to come up soon as part of the School’s continued infrastructure development.
The Principal also highlighted significant progress in staff development, noting that MUBS currently has 11 Professors and 29 Associate Professors, an achievement that demonstrates the School’s commitment to strengthening its academic capacity.
Prof. Muhwezi emphasized that his leadership is centred on making a positive difference in the lives of members of the MUBS community and ensuring that the institution continues to grow.
He thanked the MUBS Council, Management, staff, students and the entire MUBS community for their contribution towards the School’s achievements.
Council Chairperson Commends Government Support
The Chairperson of the MUBS Council, Ms. Olive, welcomed the Guest of Honour Hon. Dr. Muyingo and congratulated him upon his reappointment as Minister of State for Higher Education.
She described 1st September as a memorable day in the history of MUBS, noting that the commissioning of the new classroom block represents an important milestone in the School’s development.
She expressed appreciation to the Government of Uganda for its continued support towards the growth and development of MUBS, particularly in improving infrastructure and strengthening the institution’s capacity to serve its growing student population.
The Council Chairperson encouraged the MUBS community to preserve the achievements made, embrace positive change and continue building institutional capacity.
She concluded by commending the Principal and Management for their leadership and commitment that contributed to the successful completion of the new classroom block.
Minister Muyingo Calls for Innovation and Adoption of AI
While delivering his remarks, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, Minister of State for Higher Education, conveyed greetings from the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni. He assured the MUBS community that he would inform her about the positive developments and achievements he had witnessed at the School.
The Minister emphasized the importance of education in transforming lives and communities. He urged MUBS to view the new classroom block not simply as additional physical infrastructure, but as an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of learners.
He further encouraged higher education institutions to continuously respond to the growing number of students by expanding their infrastructure, strengthening academic capacity and embracing new approaches to teaching and learning.
Hon. Muyingo also highlighted the rapid transformation brought about by technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), noting that AI is increasingly transforming economies, workplaces and education systems. He encouraged institutions, staff and students to embrace emerging technologies and use them responsibly to enhance learning and contribute to the development of their communities.
The Minister thanked the MUBS Council and Management for the achievement and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting higher education.
He thereafter officially declared the new MUBS classroom block open, marking a new chapter in the school’s continued infrastructure and academic development.
