On March 17, 2026 Makerere University Business School Careers and Skills Development Center hosted the 2026 NSSF Uganda Career Expo, featuring engaging discussions on the future of work in the age of AI under the theme “Man vs Machine,. Exploring A.Is impact on careers’’
In her remarks, the MUBS Deputy Principal ,Assoc. Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo urged students to redefine their skills, embrace change, and seize emerging opportunities. She noted that such conversations support MUBS’ shift to a competence-based curriculum and its focus on improving learning, teaching, and partnerships. ‘’ I was impressed by the set up of the room when I Walked in, felt already in AI mode. We’re excited to engage, interact, and expose students/staff to opportunities that take us to the next level. Thanks to NSSF and partners for embracing us, helping align with student opportunities’’, she saids. Give yourselves a round of applause! She also noted that the theme of the Career Expo is timely and deep. ‘’Today, institutions will choose machines over humans for efficiency. We need to work with and against machines . Students, step up! Understand what the world needs. What kind of job seeker, innovator, entrepreneur, or employee will you be? This is a crucial subject’’, she emphasized
Meanwhile the Deputy Managing Director NSSF, Mr. Gerald Paul Kasaato said that people should embrace machines and coexist with them. ‘’The debate isn’t what AI can do, but what it should do. It might be challenging for you students, you study hard for a qualification, only to find a machine can do your job. But machines will coexist with humans, don’t worry’’, he said. He also said that machines can not have empathy, breathe, or have character/integrity, which only human posses.
He noted that Companies’ strategies are premised on purpose hard to tell a machine to give you that purpose. We at NSSF believe machines and humans will coexist. Students, find out how to work with AI. But it’s challenging for academia recognizing who did the coursework Mr. Kasaato said that NSSF supports this expo because it shapes fresh talent coming out of universities, prepare students for workplace and future employers tap them early, teach financial literacy.
