Andrew Wesimika

CCNA, BIT, PGDE, MSC-IT, MIT

Wesimika Andrew is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Marketing and Management at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Mbale Regional Campus. His research interests are multidisciplinary, focusing on the intersection of Information Technology, Information Systems, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and organizational performance. His work seeks to address contemporary challenges in the adoption, governance, and security of digital technologies, particularly within developing-country contexts.

    Research on cybersecurity awareness, information security governance, cyber threat mitigation strategies, malware prevention, and security frameworks for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and public organizations.

    Investigating how emerging technologies influence organizational efficiency, decision-making, service delivery, and institutional performance.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applications
    Exploring AI-driven predictive models for cybersecurity threat detection, information security breach prediction, and intelligent decision-support systems.
  • Information and Communication Engineering
    Research interests include communication networks, secure communication systems, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and emerging ICT infrastructures.
  • Digital Financial Technologies and Financial Inclusion
    Examining the role of digital financial literacy, mobile banking usability, and FinTech adoption in enhancing financial inclusion among small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
  • Technology Adoption and Behavioural Information Systems
    Applying theories such as Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE), Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), and Protection Motivation Theory (PMT).
  • Data Analytics and Research Methodology
    Applying advanced quantitative approaches including Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), predictive analytics, and machine learning techniques in social and technological research.

  1. BYOD Policy Framework for Mitigation of Malware Attacks in Higher Institutions of Learning
    • Developed an Improved BYOD Policy Framework (IBYODPF) to strengthen cybersecurity governance in universities.
    • Investigated cybersecurity weaknesses including inadequate security audits, limited device management controls, weak incident response mechanisms, and insufficient user awareness.
    • Applied quantitative research methods using SmartPLS, SPSS, and Python-based analytics.
  2. Information Technology Infrastructure and Employee Cybersecurity Awareness in Higher Education Institutions in Uganda
    • Examined the relationship between IT infrastructure capacity and employee cybersecurity awareness.
    • Established that technological infrastructure significantly contributes to strengthening institutional information security management.
  3. Vocabulary Expansion and Grammar Lessons in Reducing Ambiguity in English Writing among Ordinary Level Students
    • Examined how language learning interventions improve writing clarity among secondary school learners.
    • Applied PLS-SEM and qualitative analysis approaches to establish relationships between educational interventions and writing outcomes.

  1. Mitigating Information Security Breaches in Higher Education Institutions in Uganda

Research Theme: Cybersecurity and Information Security Governance

This doctoral research project focuses on developing an integrated framework for predicting and mitigating information security breaches within higher education institutions in Uganda. The study explores technological, organizational, and human factors influencing cybersecurity resilience.
