Jackie Nakabuga

I am a tourism researcher and industry practitioner committed to advancing tourism through teaching, research, innovation, and professional practice.

My career spans entrepreneurship, tourism consultancy, and academia. Before joining higher education, I managed entrepreneurial ventures and later worked as a Tourism Consultant specializing in destination management and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). These experiences have strengthened my understanding of tourism enterprises, destination development, and the practical challenges facing the industry. They continue to inform my teaching, research, and professional practice.

My research focuses on tourism competitiveness, entrepreneurship, destination management, sustainable tourism development, tourism standards, innovation, business events (MICE), and tourism policy. I am particularly interested in developing evidence-based solutions that enhance the competitiveness and resilience of tourism enterprises while supporting sustainable destination development and youth enterprise growth.

As an educator, I am passionate about preparing graduates who combine academic excellence with industry competence, ethical leadership, and entrepreneurial thinking. I actively contribute to curriculum development, student mentorship, and collaborative research that responds to emerging issues in tourism and hospitality.

I have presented research at international conferences and published scholarly and professional works on tourism resilience, social media marketing, and destination competitiveness and women entrepreneurship.  My current research agenda explores how innovation and tourism standards can strengthen the competitiveness of tourism enterprises and contribute to inclusive economic development.

My long-term aspiration is to become a leading tourism scholar and consultant whose research informs policy, strengthens tourism enterprises, and contributes to the sustainable development and global competitiveness of destinations in Africa.
