The MUBS Career and Skills Development Office under the School Registrar’s Office hosted more than 8 schools for a high school career expo for students of senior five. The theme of the event was “Competence for the Future: Empowering Students to Make Informed Career Choices.” This took place on April 8, 2026 at MUBS Main Campus, Nakawa.
The event was officiated by the commissioner of secondary school in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ms. Juliet Muzoora Atuhaire, she asked the students to count themselves lucky to have joined A-Level, saying that this is the 2 nd cohort of the competence-based curriculum love what you have chosen, as the world of work involves technology and being innovative. The application of what you now will determine what you can do, education is life, guard it especially when you have the right attitude, know your strength, interest, passion and to avoid choices with peer pressure or family. She advised. The commissioner commended MUBS for organizing career day as exposure is key in forming right decision, she appealed to the students to seek information and guidance.
The MUBS Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi while addressing the students said that MUBS is the best business and Management School in East Africa, he continued to say that people must study business and management for this country.The Principal informed the students that the future is not given, but created. He said that one does not simply become powerful, but creates such a position through dedication, purpose, and faith. He reminded them that they are among the people who must determine their own careers and future, you create that position by giving heart. By ensuring that you know your destiny and by praying that the Lord has prayed for you to meet there. So, you are part of the people that must determine your career and your future.
Prof. Muhwezi urged the students to maintain their role, you are creating that future and it is not a mistake. It is the same total of things you do now that will determine our future. And all the things you do the way you work, he advised them to listen to people, the way you network with other people. He stressed out to the students that the future of the country depends on the individuals who think differently, act boldly and innovate continuously, that’s the kind of graduates MUBS is committed to shaping.
Additionally, the Principal advised the students to take their career choices seriously, embrace practical learning and to position themselves to drive change and shape the future. Expose your brain through different courses, be flexible, the 21st century came with challenges, new things hence one should determine their fate, network and how to relate with others.
He highlighted that the success in the world today demands innovation, adaptability and business knowledge across the career paths. He encouraged students to go beyond job-seeking and focus on creating opportunities through entrepreneurship.
Dr. Jonathan Mugenyi, National curriculum specialist at the National curriculum Development Centre asked the students to know what they want, saying that education should transformative to the society, village, community and to the world. He also said that education is about what you know, it is about what you can the knowledge for to survive, knowledge is the starting point to achieve what you want and the concept of time is very important in building certain careers.
