Hassan Bashir is a holder of a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Management with a bias in Strategic Communication, a degree of Master of Business Administration (project management option) and a degree of Bachelor of International Business, from Makerere University. In the past, Hassan served as the Head of Department-Business Administration for over five years and currently he is the Deputy Dean Faculty of Business Administration, and a Senior Lecturer in the department of Business Administration, Makerere University Business School.
Dr. Bashir has over seventeen (17) years working experience in research, training, consultancy and teaching in the areas of Communication, Business Administration and Management. He has risen up to the rank of Senior Lecturer in University service and held leadership positions, which has given him wide experience in handling management and leadership challenges and any teaching responsibilities. For example; he has;
- Supervised PhDs and masters’ students to completion
- Developed and reviewed different programme curriculums of the university
- Initiated linkages between the Faculty and Institutions of higher learning inside and outside Uganda
- Participated in the recruitment, selection, promotion and disciplining of Faculty staff
- Participated in the day‐to‐day administration, organization and development of the Faculty
- Served on different top management committees of the university
- Conducted academic and field research and many other engagements.
Dr. Bashir has also demonstrated his resourcefulness to the University by winning and being part of grants initiatives for the University. Notable among these grants are:
- RIF1-Multi-Year-Phase I and II projects: He was a Principle Investigator of a 100 Million shilling research grant under the Makerere University Research and Innovations Grant Projects. This project started in January 2020 (Phase 1) and ended in June 2024 (Phase II). The tittle of the project was “Policy and Regulatory Compliance with Smart Grid Technologies; Post Electricity Sector Reform in Uganda”. Phase I focused on Policy and Regulatory Compliance with Smart Grid Technologies yet phase II focused on developing the Transformation and Implementation Road Map to Smart Grid Technologies in Uganda’s Electricity Sector.
- Norad-NORHED-Research Grant: Hassan was a Principle Investigator of a 20 Million shilling research grant under the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (Norad-NORHED). It started in June 2021 and ended in June 20222. The research tittle was “Increasing Electricity Consumption through improved management and regulation of the Charcoal Supply Value Chain”. This project was executed in collaboration with the National Environment Management Authority of Uganda (NEMA).
- RIF 3 Research Project: Between 2020 and 2022, Hassan was a Co-researcher on three teams undertaking research grant under the Makerere University Research and Innovations Grant Project (RIF). The projects included; 1). The Impact of COVID-19 on SMEs performance in Uganda, A human centered assessment and recovery models 2). Incentive Regulations; towards reduced electricity tariffs and increased consumption of clean energy in Uganda. 3). Monitoring and Enforcement for sustainable forest wood extraction.
Dr. Bashir has also been involved in consultancy works to bridge the gap between theory and practice. He has consulted for a number of organizations including; Sadar Disaster Resilience Institute (SDRI) Mogadishu, Somalia, One Health Central and Eastern Africa (OHCEA) Uganda, IOM -Durable Solution Baidoa, Somalia, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Somalian (MoHADM), World vision Somalia, Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Incubation Centre, Makerere University Business Schools, Uganda among others. Dr. Hassan Bashir is married and Allah has blessed him with ten (10) children.
My Philosophy in Life
All human beings are inadequate; do not look for the perfect ones to relate with. By befriending many around you, you will harness the little good in each one of them to have enough goodness around you. As you annoy and hurt others expect to be annoyed and hurt. Hence forgive and be the source of happiness to others, they may reciprocate the goodness for you to live a happy life.
